"Being vegan requires being anti-capitalist."
The cause as a tool
They use the animal movement for another purpose, or pretend two goals never conflict.
Why it is weak
When someone says this without saying, just as firmly, that anti-capitalists should be vegan, the real goal isn't animal welfare. It's recruiting supporters for another cause from inside the vegan movement.
The same goes for any cause: it's true that humans deserve consideration, but that doesn't license demanding only of animal advocates that they adopt other specific causes.
How to say it better
Defend your political position as a political position, with its own arguments, without presenting it as a condition for defending animals.
