"Food that may contain traces of milk isn't vegan."

Purity and invented rules

They create demands veganism does not make and push away people who might join, without helping a single animal.

Why it is weak

"May contain traces" is a warning for people with allergies: the product went through machines that also process that ingredient. The ingredient isn't in the recipe.

A trace isn't an ingredient. Anyone can avoid these products as a personal choice, but that doesn't make them non-vegan, and the rule only makes veganism harder for beginners.

How to say it better

Check whether there is an animal ingredient and whether the company carries out or sponsors testing or other exploitation.
