V24

"This partial law is unfair to the other animals."

Objection in disguise

They look like concern for strategy or for the animals, but become a ready excuse to change nothing.

Why it is weak

It sounds like an even stronger commitment, but it proves too much: since it's impossible to ban every form of exploitation at once, someone who cares about outcomes would prefer a real reduction in suffering to none.

The same person would hardly oppose a law that reduced part of some human suffering because it didn't solve every human problem at once.

How to say it better

Judge each law by what it causes over time. The abolition-versus-reform debate is real, but it is empirical and needs evidence case by case.
