V53

"Veganism is only about animals; nothing else matters."

The cause as a tool

They use the animal movement for another purpose, or pretend two goals never conflict.

Why it is weak

Veganism does focus on animal exploitation, but that's no license to treat other humans unfairly or with prejudice. Humans are sentient too, and the criterion applies to them.

Using the cause as an excuse for prejudice is inconsistent: it reproduces the moral exclusion the movement criticizes.

How to say it better

Veganism has a focus, and prioritizing it is legitimate. That doesn't oblige anyone to embrace every cause (see V51), but it doesn't free anyone from respecting people either.
