Borrowed reason
They talk about health, hunger or the planet instead of the animals. When the borrowed reason falls, the motivation falls with it.
Why it is weak
It ignores that hunger is largely a problem of distribution and political will, not just of farm output.
It also puts a human benefit in the place that should belong to the animal itself.
How to say it better
Harming sentient beings without necessity is unjust, with or without any effect on hunger.
