"In India almost everyone is vegan."

Exaggeration or attack

They claim more than the evidence supports, or attack people instead of discussing what they do.

Why it is weak

It confuses vegetarianism with veganism. About 39% of Indian adults say they are vegetarian, and milk consumption in the country is very high.

The example is good for something else: showing that not eating meat isn't a habit of a white, wealthy elite. Exaggerating it weakens that point.

How to say it better

In India, about four in ten adults say they are vegetarian, and eight in ten restrict meat in some way. Refusing meat is old and diverse, and it does not belong to one social group.
